BACKGROUND

This report presents the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission an annual opportunity to review on the City’s Code of Ethics and Conduct for Elected and Appointed Officials (Code).

 

The Code (Attachment 1) contains a section on ethical standards and a section on conduct which describes the way officials should treat one another, City staff, constituents and others with whom they may come in contact with while representing the City.

 

Staff makes no recommendation.

 

EXISTING POLICY

2024 Code of Ethics and Conduct for Elected and Appointed Officials.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

The action being considered does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378 (b) (5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.

 

DISCUSSION

Council appointed boards and commissions to develop annual work plans that identify policy issues that a board/commission will be acting on during the year. Included in the work plans is an annual review of the Code, where board/commission shall vote to acknowledge they have read and will obey the Code of Ethics and Conduct for Elected and Appointed Official.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact associated with this report.

Public contact was made by posting the Council agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall, at the Sunnyvale Public Library, Senior Center, Community Center and in the Department of Public Safety Lobby. In addition, the agenda and report are available at the Sunnyvale Public Library, Office of the City Clerk, and on the City's website.

 

ALTERNATIVES

1. Receive and acknowledge the Code of Ethics and Conduct for Elected and Appointed Officials as presented in Attachment 1 to the report.

Staff makes no recommendation. This report is being presented to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission for review and to acknowledge the Code of Ethics and Conduct for Elected and Appointed Officials.
