GRANT SUMMARY
The City Manager accepted a grant to the Department of Library and Community Services in the amount of $5,000 for purchasing books to augment the Common Core curriculum. The Common Core State Standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards clearly demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher can understand and support their learning. The Library will be studying appropriate grade level requirements and purchasing material to supplement its current collection.

The Division of Library in the Department of Library and Community Services will be responsible for the management of the grant.

Granting Agency
This project was supported by an LSTA (Library Services Technology Act) grant administered in California by the California State Library.

EXISTING POLICY

For grants under the amount of $5,000 that do not have any external reporting requirements or any local match requirement, Council approval of a budget modification is not required. The City Manager is authorized to accept and administratively appropriate the grant funds.

This grant does not meet all of the criteria to be administratively appropriated by the City Manager; therefore a budget modification is required. Grant funds from California State Library have external reporting requirements and fall under the federal single audit guidelines.
