Adopt a Resolution Approving the City Council Regular Meeting Calendar for 2024 Through February 2025
Report
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
This agenda item was scheduled on the Consent Calendar portion of the November 14, 2023 Council Meeting agenda (RTC No. 23-0177). Mayor Klein pulled this item from the Consent Calendar but it was not heard by Council at that time.
Attachment 1 has been updated to correctly reflect the dates of the Thanksgiving holiday in 2024.
Staff responded to several questions from Councilmembers when this item was previously scheduled. These questions and responses are included in Attachment 2.
Sunnyvale Charter Section 611 states that the City Council “shall hold regular meetings at least twice each month, at such times as it shall fix by ordinance or resolution and may adjourn or readjourn any regular meeting to a date certain, which shall be specified in the order of adjournment and when so adjourned, each adjourned meeting shall be a regular meeting for all purposes.”
A Resolution establishing the Council’s regular meeting schedule is provided in Attachment 1 for Council review and approval. Exhibit A of the Resolution is the proposed 2024 City Council Meeting Calendar, which specifies the proposed dates of the Council’s regular meetings for 2024 and through February 2025. The Calendar also includes potential dates for special meetings and notes City holidays. The Calendar indicates several tentative regular meeting dates that may be called as needed by the Mayor, in consultation with the City Manager.
Special Council meetings may be scheduled as early at 5:00 p.m. on the same evening as regular meetings for closed sessions, study sessions or other Council business. Councilmembers should plan to be available starting at 5:00 p.m. on Regular Meeting nights.
Agenda items for the proposed regular meetings will be added to the Tentative Council Meeting Agenda Council (TCMAC) as approved and scheduled by the Mayor, the City Manager, and/or the majority of Council.
