BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
On November 19, 2024, the City Council held a joint study session with Board and Commission (B/C) Chairs and Vice Chairs. The purpose of the study session was to convene an annual discussion regarding B/C effectiveness, and to invite input from B/C members to the City Council. The input during this annual round of discussion was substantial. The November 2024 meeting resulted in nineteen suggested improvements or modifications for consideration.
Many policy and operational items suggested at the joint study session have been completed, several others are underway. Staff does not have an immediate need to convene the Council Subcommittee on Boards and Commissions to provide policy direction and will continue to work to implement suggestions.
Another joint study session with B/C Chairs and Vice Chairs is planned for November 2025. Given the significant progress toward addressing suggestions from 2024, and staff’s current focus on the Charter Review Commission during 2025, staff would anticipate reconvening the Council Subcommittee on Boards and Commissions after the November 2025 joint study session.
This informational report has been shared with all Board and Commission Members.
