SUMMARY OF COMMISSION ACTION
The Arts Commission considered this item on June 18, 2025.

The Arts Commission voted to recommend City Council select Liz Hickok, Alexandra Muddle, and Carrie Lederer as the artists for the designing of three backless benches, and Annie Cappelli as the artist to design a seating wall for the Corn Palace Park. The vote was 3-0, with Commissioner Lam and Chair Veith absent.

The Arts Commission ranking of artists is as follows:

Three Backless Benches
1. Liz Hickok
2. Alexandra Muddle
3. Carrie Lederer
4. Annie Cappelli (tied with Zoe)
5. Zoe Caron (tied with Annie)
6. Faducci
7. Amber Smith

Seating Wall:
1. Annie Cappelli

PUBLIC CONTACT
Public contact was made by posting the Council meeting agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board at City Hall, at the Sunnyvale Public Library and in the Department of Public Safety Lobby. In addition, the agenda and this report are available at the City Hall reception desk located on the first floor of City Hall at 456 W. Olive Avenue (during normal business hours), and on the City's website.

ALTERNATIVES
1. Approve the Arts Commission recommendations of Liz Hickok, Alexandra Muddle, Carrie Lederer, and Annie Cappelli as the artists.
2. Do not accept the Arts Commission recommendations and approve different designs by different artists.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
There is no staff recommendation for this project. Pursuant to the Art in Public Places procedures, staff does not participate in the selection of the artwork for city projects; however, staff can confirm that the 10 proposals are appropriate for this project and will fit within the designated spaces.
