BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
This report is to inform the Council of the following resignation from a City commission.
Elizabeth Steward, who was appointed to a term on the Housing and Human Services Commission on August 29, 2023, and scheduled to serve a term to expire June 30, 2027, has submitted a letter of resignation from the Commission, effective January 12, 2026.
Administrative Policy, Chapter 1, General Management, Article 15 Boards and Commissions, Section 2, Subdivision 8 states that when a resignation letter is received, staff shall prepare an Information Only Report to Council that indicates the resignation(s) and specifies the process that staff recommends filling the new vacancy.
The Housing and Human Services Commission vacancy will be promoted with the annual recruitment process for May 2026 appointments. The application deadline for this recruitment is April 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., with interviews on April 27 and 28, 2026, and appointments on May 19, 2026.
With this resignation, the May 2026 recruitment includes the following vacancies:
* Arts Commission (one vacancy)
* Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission (two vacancies, Category One or Category Two*)
* Board of Library Trustees (one vacancy)
* Heritage Preservation Commission (two vacancies)
* Housing and Human Services Commission (three vacancies)
* Human Relations Commission (two vacancies, one could be Category Two**)
* Parks and Recreation Commission (one vacancy)
* Personnel Board - Employee-nominated (one vacancy)
* Planning Commission (two vacancies)
* Sustainability Commission (two vacancies, one must be Category Two***)
