DISCUSSION
A General Municipal Election was held November 5, 2013 for the purpose of electing Councilmembers to fill Seat Numbers 1, 2 and 3. The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters has canvassed the returns of the election and on November 19, 2013, the City Clerk received the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters Certification of Election Results.
California Elections Code Section 10263 requires the City Council to adopt a resolution reciting the fact of the election and to declare elected the persons receiving the highest votes cast for each office. Charter Section 601 provides for the term to commence at the first regular meeting in January, at which the City Council shall certify the election results.
The attached resolution recites the number of votes cast and percentage of the vote received by each candidate, and declares the following persons elected to respective elective offices for a term of five (5) years commencing January 7, 2014:
Councilmember Seat Number 1: Gustav Larsson
Councilmember Seat Number 2: Glenn Hendricks
Councilmember Seat Number 3: James R. "Jim" Griffith
The votes cast and percentage of the vote received by each individual follows in the table below (Councilmember-Elect names in bold):
PUBLIC CONTACT
Public contact was made by posting the Council agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall, at the Sunnyvale Senior Center, Community Center and Department of Public Safety; and by making the agenda and report available at the Sunnyvale Public Library, the Office of the City Clerk and on the City's website.
