Title
Review Proposal to Assist the Department of Library and Community Services (LCS) with the Design and Implementation of the 2017 Library Cart Art Contest

BACKGROUND
The Department of Library and Community Services has identified its book shelving carts as an opportunity to promote art within the Library. In honor of National Arts and Humanities month in October 2017, the Department of Library and Community Services is proposing to conduct a Library Cart Art contest. Artists of all ages would be invited to submit original artwork that could be converted to decals and used to decorate the shelving carts. As the City's official advisory body on art-related matters, the Department of Library and Community Services is proposing to work with the Arts Commission in the design and implementation of the contest. The purpose of this report is to request that the Arts Commission provide assistance to staff in identifying appropriate means of promoting the contest and select two members of the Commission to work with staff, representatives of the Board of Library Trustees and the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library on the planning team for the contest.
