Vice Chair Filley called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

Recognition of Service  
Council Liaison Mehlinger thanked the commissioners for their service, and  
outgoing Commissioner Eskridge for being on the Arts Commission for eight years.

to approve the consent calendar as submitted.

Recommend Arts Commission Approve Art in Private  
Development Project - 1250 Lakeside Drive/MSocial Hotel  
(Wittek Development)  
Chandra Cerrito, Art Advisor for Wittek Development, provided a presentation on  
the public art conceptual Design for the Sunnyvale MSocial Hotel. Highlights  
included: project details, artist profile, and selected past works. Ray King, the  
artist, also presented on the conceptual design of the art piece, "Ventricular Lens."  
Commissioners inquired about the location of the art piece, seating benches  
around the art piece, and how the art piece will be identified as a public art piece.  
The art advisor and artist responded.  
Commissioner Eskridge moved and Commissioner Kauffman seconded the motion  
to Approve Art in Private Development Project -1250 Lakeside Drive/MSocial Hotel  
(Wittek Development).  
The motion carried by the following vote:

Review and Recommendation of Public Art for Corn Palace  
Park  
Kristin Dance, Recreation Services Public Arts Management Analyst, provided a  
presentation on the Corn Palace Park Public Art project. Highlights included:  
project overview, selected art locations, application process, and the commission  
review process. Seven artists presented on their design proposals for the backless  
benches, and three artists presented on their design proposals for the seating wall.  
Commissioners inquired about the materials, dimensions, and durability of the  
designs. The artists responded.  
Commissioners ranked the designs, and the artists with the top rankings for their  
designs of the three backless benches were: Liz Hickok, Alexandra Muddle, and  
Carrie Lederer.  
The Arts Commission ranking of artists for the backless benches is as follows:  
1. Liz Hickok  
2. Alexandra Muddle  
3. Carrie Lederer  
4. Annie Cappelli (tied with Zoe)  
5. Zoe Caron (tied with Annie)  
6. Faducci  
7. Amber Smith  
Commissioner Eskridge moved and Commissioner Kauffman seconded the motion  
to recommend Liz Hickok, Alexandra Muddle, and Carrie Lederer as the artists to  
design the three backless benches for the Corn Palace Park.  
The motion carried by the following vote:

Of the artists who submitted their designs for the seating wall, the artist with the top  
ranking was Annie Cappelli.  
The Arts Commission ranking of artists for the seating wall is as follows:

Commissioner Kauffman moved and Commissioner Eskridge seconded the motion  
to recommend Annie Cappelli as the artist to design the seating wall for the Corn  
Palace Park.

NON-AGENDA ITEMS AND COMMENTS  
-Commissioner Comments  
Commissioner Eskridge thanked staff and commissioners for a great experience,  
and she enjoyed serving on the Arts Commission for the past eight years.  
Vice Chair Filley confirmed with staff that there will not be an Arts Commission  
meeting in July, and inquired about the National Arts and Humanities Month  
presentation. Additionally, she thanked Commissioner Eskridge for her time on the  
Arts Commission.  
-Staff Comments  
Michelle Perera, Director of Library and Recreation Services, explained due to the  
tight timeline, the National Arts and Humanities Month presentation will be given at  
the August Arts Commission meeting.  
Kristin Dance announced that the exhibition program is still underway, and the  
three walls have been put up in the Sunnyvale Public Library and the Sunnyvale  
Senior Center. Additionally, a map of where all of the Suns of Sunnyvale have been  
installed can be found on the City's website, in the public art section.
