Chair Kunz called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. in the Bay Conference Room  
(Room 145) at City Hall.

Solid Waste Program Update  
Deepti Jain, Environmental Programs Manager, and Bailey Hall, Environmental  
Programs Specialist II, provided updates on Solid Waste Programs as well as  
collection and processing operations at the SMaRT Station®. Commissioners asked  
clarifying questions, and staff provided answers.

Vice Chair Veitch moved, and Commissioner Makwana seconded, a motion to  
approve the meeting minutes of August 21, 2023.

-Commissioner Comments  
Vice Chair Veitch congratulated Chair Kunz on facilitating his first Sustainability  
Commission meeting as Chair of the Sustainability Commission. Vice Chair Veitch  
reminded Commissioners of the upcoming Santa Clara County event, Live Induction  
Cooking Experience, featuring Chef Tú. The event will be on September 26 from  
6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Okayama Room in Leininger Center, Kelley Park in San Jose.  
The presentation will be in English with live Vietnamese translation available. Vice  
Chair Veitch congratulated Commissioner Wickham for being one of the winners of  
the SVCE 2023 All-Electric Showcase Awards.  
-Staff Comments  
Christina Raby, Environmental Engineering Coordinator, reminded Commissioners  
of the release of draft Game Plan 2028. Ms. Raby informed the Commissioners  
there will be several community workshops to provide input as well as an online  
feedback survey. Madeline Khair, Environmental Programs Manager, and Ms. Raby  
also reported on upcoming events and the deadline for submitting Study Issue  
forms.
