Approve Art in Private Development Project - Starwood Capital  
Group/Treehouse Hotel (1100 Mathilda Avenue)  
Isaiah Francis, Project Manager, and Jayson Fann, artist, provided a presentation  
on Starwood Capital Group/Treehouse Hotel on 1100 Mathilda Avenue. Highlights  
included; design, site placement and lighting plan.  
Commissioners inquired and staff responded:  
Can members of the public interact with the sculpture? No, the sculpture will be for  
visual purposes.  
Vice Chair Filley moved and Commissioner Eskridge seconded the motion to  
Approve Art in Private Development Project - Starwood Capital Group/Treehouse  
Hotel (1100 Mathilda Avenue).

Recommend Council Approve Art in Private Development  
Project - Hunter Properties/Cityline, titled Dropping the Ball  
(Phase 2, Artwork 2 of 4)  
Ellie Hunter, Art Consultant, provided a presentation on Dropping the Ball.  
Highlights included: master plan, current artwork, artist bio and resume, site plan  
and maintenance.  
Commissioners inquired and staff responded:  
Will there be seating near the sculpture? Yes, the artwork will be placed on a  
planter with space for people to sit.  
The planter's height of 1'8" seems too low for people to sit on, can we explore  
raising the height? Yes, feedback will be relayed to the designer.  
Can we explore rounding the shape of the planter to resemble the sculptures  
theme? Yes, feedback will be relayed to the designer.  
Vice Chair Filley moved and Commissioner Kauffman seconded the motion to  
Recommend Council Approve Art in Private Development Project - Hunter  
Properties/Cityline, titled Dropping the Ball (Phase 2, Artwork 2 of 4).

Select a Final Sun Design Concept for the Sunnyvale Icons  
Project  
Kristin Dance, Recreation Services Coordinator, provided a presentation on the final  
sun design concepts for the Sunnyvale Icons Project. Highlights included: materials,  
locations and installation timeline.  
Commissioners inquired and staff responded:  
Will the sculptures be temporary or permanent? Temporary.  
What is the height of the sculpture? 6 feet.  
Will there be lighting installed for the sculpture? No, the sculptures will be installed  
near lights in the park.  
Commissioners discussed their preferences on option A, B and C.  
Commissioner Kauffman moved and Vice Chair Filley seconded the motion to select  
option 3 with curved dimensions in the center of the sun for the Icon Sculpture  
Project.

STANDING ITEM: CONSIDERATION OF POTENTIAL STUDY ISSUES

NON-AGENDA ITEMS & COMMENTS  
-Commissioner Comments  
Commissioner Lam provided an update regarding the Art in the Park Project. She  
notated that Washington Park will be used, and volunteers will decorate 3' x 3'  
canvases to be hung along the fence of the play area. The artworks will be  
displayed one week before Halloween and throughout the month of November.  
Autumn celebrations will be this year's theme. She encourages the Commission to  
spread the word to increase participation.  
-Staff Comments  
Kristin Dance provided an update that phase 2 of The Great Box Cover-up is  
complete. There will be a map with all 20 locations available on the City website.  
Additionally, this Saturday 6 artists will be performing at State of the City.
